What is a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)?

Earn College Credit for Your Life Experiences

Prior Learning Assessment gives you an opportunity to earn college credit by demonstrating evidence of your learning from experiences like military training, professional licenses, employer training or even independent study.

How Does Prior Learning Assessment Work?

  1. Meet with a learner concierge to develop your personalized degree completion plan. The learner concierge will help create a personalized plan for achieving degree completion goals.
  2. Identify the courses on the degree completion plan that could be fulfilled through prior learning assessment. Explore existing Prior Learning Assessment opportunities or meet with a learner concierge to submit a request to have a new experience evaluated. Either way, we’re ready to help you through the entire process.
  3. Submit evidence of learning experiences to be reviewed for college credit. After providing evidence of learning experiences, submissions will be reviewed and a credit determination will be made in accordance with university policies. Our learner concierge will provide updates and assistance throughout the review process. After the evidence of learning experiences has been reviewed, the college credit earned will be posted to transcripts.
  4. Celebrate! You’ve taken an important step towards earning your University of Central Oklahoma degree.

Prior Learning Assessment is awarded according to University of Central Oklahoma Academic Affairs Policy 1.9.
